The Xi Chapter of Sigma Kappa is very passionate about service and philanthropic support. During the 2014-2015 school year our women participated in more than 30 community service hours per member—and we are on track to do the same this school year! Members enjoy helping our community by serving breakfast at Jubilee Café, assisting with Therapeutic Horseback Riding lessons at Midnight Farms, dancing the night away for KU Dance Marathon, and much more! In our latest service project we partnered with the men of Sigma Alpha Epsilon to host an after-school event for Boys and Girls Club. It was complete with face painting, cookie decorating, and lots of laughs! In addition to community service, our chapter works hard to support Sigma Kappa’s national philanthropies. We have created a Friendship Circle with the residents of Neuvant House. Neuvant House is a care center specialized for patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Our women volunteer regularly at Neuvant House and also host fun events for the patients such as a Prom and a Holiday party. To further benefit Alzheimer’s research, each spring our chapter hosts a campus wide cupcake sale called Sigma Kappa KUpcakes. We are also very excited to partake in a West Campus Clean Up to pick up trash around KU and help do our part for Inherit the Earth. Check back in the fall to see what other exciting philanthropy events we have planned!
